Piñeiro de Areas
Nestled between mountains, with a handful of inhabitants who, if not for vehicles and television, make life as they did 100 years ago, without the current worries that eat us daily; where if you move away 50 meters from the road and close your eyes, you might feel that you are transported to a virgin place, where the only sounds that whispers are the birds, the water, the air between the trees and you feel how the freshness of the green caress through your pores.
A place to disconnect, get lost, find yourself, traveling across their silent paths and old lanes, discovering corners, customs, legends, myths and get fill up with nature.
Among these alternatives, you can do the same trekking and discover water pools, in which you merge with the environment without anyone witnessing, as to bathe on a river beach, with your parasol and towel, or address up to the mountain and witness the unique landscape above the clouds, spotting wild horses and boars.
All within a stone's throw, with no more expense than your physical effort to reach these places. You'll spot hiking trails for all tastes, eternal forests, rivers with tributaries and mountains that allow the protagonist to immerse themselves in the serenity of their natural environment. It is not necessary to use filters or photoshop to highlight these landscapes, and even then, the photographs will never do it justice.
The Sierra del Suído, a protected natural area, is "just around the corner" waiting to whisper its charms.
You will not be oblivious to the Celtic culture, which will permeate wherever you walk. At a height of 500 meters and a walk from Piñeiro de Areas, there is a hermitage, the Hermitage of The Guide (la Guía), which sits on an old castro without studying and without digging, where a bronze ax was found by an area fan. It evidences the ancient existence of a “city”, and it is not surprising that they had built it there since the mound has some impregnable characteristics and a strategic situation over the Val do Tea.
The area is full of historical remains such as the centenary bridges of Piñeiro and Portafurado, over the Caraño River, and that of San Xoán de Mosteiro in the Alén or the Fofe Bridge over the Tea River itself. Cobbled paths of the first century wait for you to walk them and that with your steps you clean the rebel vegetation that has become the owner of the roads built by the Romans.
You will find the mythical cruises, horreos and chozos everywhere you walk, and I assure you that they will make you travel in time, that one that you surely have not lived, but that still breathes in your soul.
In the urban center, you will find all the traditional agro-livestock work, such as grazing cows, goats and sheep and various vegetables grown in the crop fields. These tasks are the day to day of these people, who continue to make a living based on daily effort and sacrifice to keep holding that that has witnessed their life and their ancestors.
